Austin Wear lives with his family in King George, Virginia, but grew up mostly in Hanover County, VA. He’s a young adult with Level 3 autism, mild to moderate intellectual disability, and clinical OCD, who creates original beaded jewelry.

 

In 2016, he happened to make a beaded bracelet and was instantly hooked on the creativity, patterns, and counting involved. What started as a hobby became a way to cope with the challenges of autism and OCD, giving him both purpose and dignity. He thrives on the praise and requests for his work, whether from table sales, online, or personal notes, and each compliment fills him with pride. Outside of beading, he enjoys drawing, solving math problems, listening to music, and playing retro video games. He attends a CSB day program focused on community engagement, socializing, volunteering, and leisure activities. Known for his friendly personality, Austin loves meeting new people and has unique talents, like an incredible memory for dates and a “perpetual mental calendar” that can pinpoint the day of the week for any date. Even with obstacles, his determination allows him to bead with impressive skill.

 

As demand for his creations grew, his mother, Leigh Wear, started Austin’s WearABLE Art in 2019 to sell his pieces online and in person. Since then, he has sold hundreds across 35 states and internationally, known for his use of quality materials, excellent craftsmanship, and premium packaging. He enjoys adding personal touches like handwritten notes, treats, and surprises, and loves interacting with customers.
