About

Austin Wear

lives in King George, Virginia.  He is a young adult with autism who creates original jewelry.

He is diagnosed with Class 3 (greatly affected) autism, mild/moderate intellectual disability, anxiety disorder, and clinical obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Beyond making jewelry, Austin enjoys drawing, solving math problems, listening to music, and playing old school video games.  He attends a CSB day program that engages with the community through exploration, socialization, volunteering, and leisure activities.  Austin is well-liked and enjoys meeting people.

Austin has a few rare splinter skills:  a comprehensive long-term memory for dates, especially birthdays and significant events, and a "perpetual mental calendar" that allows him to immediately determine the day of the week given a random date.  His ability to bead is remarkable. Often, his hands are very shaky due to his medications.  This is when his persistence is valuable.

Austin requires extensive support for activities of daily living and full safety supervision.  He is verbal, but frequently uses rote language. Despite communication obstacles, he comes up with both insightful and witty remarks. As he has become more mature, his behavioral difficulties are usually manageable.  Beading helps with challenges because he is so focused, and his OCD needs of counting and patterns are fulfilled.

Austin's WearABLE Art

In 2019 with increasing demand for Austin's bracelets, his mother, Leigh Wear, founded Austin's WearABLE Art.

Austin has sold hundreds of jewelry pieces, reaching  35 different states and internationally.

Quality materials,  exceptional craftsmanship, and premium packaging are trademarks of Austin's WearABLE Art.

Austin enjoys writing notes to customers, often adding treats and surprises and trips to the post office.  He likes to engage with his customers.

Austin is proud to help groups.  A minimum of 10% of Austin's jewelry sales are donated to non-profit organizations.  We believe it is essential to recognize and support groups that strive to aid people with disabilities.  He has benefited personally from many of the non-profits supported by his sales.
